Overview

               The Community Health Nursing Department of the college was established in 2011. The department plays a vital role in promoting health awareness and providing community-based health services in both rural and urban areas. It also supervises undergraduate student research activities and field training programs.

Initially, practical training was conducted in the field practice areas of Choornikkara and Keezhmad PHCs, Malayidamthuruthu CHCs, and urban localities of Kalamassery. Currently, the department has expanded its services to include Vazhakkulam PHC.

The department actively participates in various outreach and health promotion activities such as school health services, dietary demonstrations, health talks, medical camps, health screenings, field visits, national health programs, and palliative care services. Dedicated faculty members guide students in community health nursing with special emphasis on disease prevention, health promotion, and wellness.

Objectives

- To provide quality community health nursing education to students.

- To develop skills in preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative care.

- To create awareness regarding community health problems and their management.

- To train students in conducting community surveys, home visits, and health assessments.

- To promote participation in national health programs and community outreach activities.

- To encourage research activities in community health nursing.

- To enhance leadership, communication, and health education skills among students.

- To emphasize disease prevention and health promotion in rural and urban communities.
